Some of my problems are:
Checking 4 times or more to make sure all the doors are locked, checking in my closet and under my bed, behind the shower curtain, and under the sink before going to bed, imagining people with axes chasing me while I'm awake, making sure everything is lined up perfectly, going crazy when people spell the most obvious words wrong, not being able to walk down the hallway at night, scared to go in my basement that is just like any other room in the house, making sure that all the blinds are lined up correctly at night in front of my window, if my right hand hits something I'll have a strange urge to hit it exactly the same way with my left hand, biting the skin off my fingers until they sting from it. These are all the problems that I can think of. What do you think?
Do I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
No...that sounds more like paranoia..Im seriously not trying to be mean to you but you need to talk to a doctor. Good Luck
Reply:I would say yes. I have a lot of the same wierd problems and many people tell me I am obsessive compulsive.
Reply:i think so. what you are describing is excessive behavior. please get help.
Reply:I actually do a lot of these same things (especially the stuff with hands and the locks). I've been evaluated and found not to have OCD. You might just be paranoid about your safety, which is a fairly normal phenomenon since women are raised expecting to get raped or attacked sometime in their lives. I just chalk it up to me being a really unique person (at least that's what I tell myself! lol)
If you sincerely think you might have OCD, go to a doc and have her/him check you. They can do a fairly quick diagnostic Q%26amp;A and find out pretty quickly if further tests are needed.
Reply:While none of us can diagnose you, I would say it sounds likely that you do have it. Usually the checking and other rituals are done to prevent or make the thought go away, in your case, people chasing you with axes, etc. If it interferes with your ability to function in life, I would recommend you seek a therapist's guidance. Start off at your PCP, they can make a referral and determine if medication might help as well. Whatver therapist you get linked up with, should know that treatment for OCD is called Exposure and Response Prevention, a form of cognitive behavioral therapy. If they don't know that, then go find someone else. You can find OCD-specialty therapists at www.ocfoundation.org.
