Blood disorders...?

okay.. I just got thinking about this because I donated blood yesterday... Dont' get me wrong.. I'm healthy as far as I know and I answered all their questions honestly.. but I'm curious as to wheter I could have some blood disorder in my genetics

My grandfather died of "blood clots" according to my mom

My uncle (his son) is having clotting problems and is on a blood thinner

My mom (his daughter) once was hospitalized for (gotta look this up or ask her) something with a name like "Petikii" or something like that.. platlet problem?? caused her blood to oose from her skin or something?? help me out here..

anyone think there could be a connection here??? Any pertinent info to give me??

Blood disorders...?
your blood exactly may not have those problems...but it could. Genetics is usually one of the reasons problems come about in a persons health. If you are wanting to know if you do have anything you can see a Genetics Counselor i think they are called...hahahah thats so retarded, but anyway, yea, your probably at high risk for clotting issues. Get it checked or I think you can actually contact the people who took your blood and ask them if they noticed, because i do believe they run all sorts of tests on your blood after they get it.
Reply:Its seems like you family has a problem with blood clots with are usually caused by platlets sticking together. Donating blood wont hurt you, nor is the blood tainted because of it. Lots of things are controlled by genetics but if it can only from your moms side of the family you could be ok. if you do think you are having problems with it talk to your doctor about it.
Reply:It depends. Was your grandfather sedentary or did he have a broken bone or surgery before he died of a blood clot? Also, people who have a heart condition called atrial fibrilation are put on blood thinners to prevent clots. Smoking can also increase your risk for clots, as does dehydration and birth control pills. I would reccomend discussing this with your doctor.
