150 people got e-coli from spinach. do you think that is how many people actually ate that stuff?

To tell you the truth, I eat Spinach all the time because it is said to help with my psoriasis, which is an autoimmune disorder in the skin.





I'm sure that their are good recipes for the use of spinach, but I just boil it plain with no salt or anything and eat it like if it were medicine.





I don't put salt or anything else in it to keep it even healthier and more pure.





I heard about the epidemic with e-coli on about Last Monday or Tuesday. Even though I heard about the epidemic, I still bought some frozen Spinach in a bag and I'm about to eat some tonight.





I figure, that their are thousands, if not millions of buyers of Spinach who ate the stuff, so 150 out of thousands or millions is a small ratio.





I would have better luck winning thousands or hundreds of thousand dollars gambling in one night than to contact e-coli from Spinach.





Unless their are only hundreds of people who ate Spinach in the whole USA, then the chances of getting sick are high.

as an update to todays news about spinach and e-coli there have been over 1500 ppl who got sick and 1 confirmed death from this virus i cant stand spinach but if i did i sure as heck would not eat it i gave up ground beef for the longest time even tho it wasnt a factor in my area for mad cow disease. the news gave healthy alternatives to spinach sure as lettuce, endive lettuce for a ceasar salad green beans or three green bean cassorole

Go and buy some spinach if you want. If you wake up with worms or blood in your stool, don't tell us.
Reply:I think that most of the people who got e-coli were eating the spinach raw. I would say call your health professional and ask them about eating it.

Reply:Having had ecoli and STILL having problems, 6 years later, because of it, I can tell you that you are crazy to take chances with it. I would bet many more than the 150 ate it and didn't get sick because they cooked it first. But, if they ate it raw, they did indeed get sick. Not all of them got sick enough to go to the hospital, but they did get sick. Several courses in biology tells me that.
Reply:you are right the sample population is that is sick is small. Although right now I would not eat raw spinach, make sure you clean it and cook it to kill any bacteria on it....
Reply:Frozen spinach is fine, it is the fresh bagged spinach from California that is at issue. Also ccoking the spinach kills the e. coli bacteria so you should be good.

I heard about this sometime last week and i LOVE SUBWAY....i get Spinach on my sandwhich every time...and i eat it almost everyday for my lunch...and i havent gotten sick...





Its raw spinach to...but it guess it depends on a lot of things...they are even saying Raw Milk, raw buttermilk, raw cheese....is also connected tothe E-COlli.....i dont know...





I love spinach too...but im staying away from it untill all of this dies done...





Honestly...i think u should to...just to be on the safe side...

Reply:I think many more people ate it, yet were not affected by the virus/bacteria. Cooking at a high heat temperature kills the bacteria. Only the RAW spinach is risky. It needs to be put into boiling water to kill the bad bugs!
Reply:like any bacterial or viral infection different people react differently according to the strength of your immune system. only the very old/young and people who are immuno-compromised are really effected so strongly. for 150 to get sick and 2 to die, it would take a cross section of about 3 thousand people all together to have eaten it.
Reply:E Coli is only a problem with uncooked or badly-cooked food. If you are boiling your spinach then it is perfectly safe as the temperature destroys the bug. Even rotting meat can be safely eaten provided it is cooked long and hot enough to kill the bacteria.





Freezing does not do this, it merely puts the bacteria into hibernation.
