Can I get a tattoo if I have a bleeding disorder(slow to clot)??

I want to get a tattoo, but I am defective in factor seven, which means I am slow to clot, and I am worried that something can go wrong. Do tattoos affect the blood, or just the skin??

Can I get a tattoo if I have a bleeding disorder(slow to clot)??
Look claysbabe.....this is the kind of question that you need to ask 1) your doctor and 2) your tattoo artist. I wouldn't trust this one to strangers. My tattoos (which are medium in size) didn't bleed much and didn't scab at all. Everybodies different. Ask an expert.

Reply:don't get one
Reply:I have a decent size tattoo on my back and the healing process went very smooth. I'm almost positive tattoos only affect your skin, but there is a little blood involved so I'd check with a doctor or research the topic on your own. You can also check with the artist you were planning on having give you your tat and see what he has to say about the issue. I hope it all works out!
Reply:They'll probley ask you and tell you that you shouldn't get one.

You probley shouldn't get one just to play it safe.
Reply:I got my last tattoo 2 weeks ago and it was the first one that I have gotten that bled. I would be really careful about getting one if you have a clotting factor. My advise would be to go to the person you want to do the tattoo for you and discuss this problem with them. They can let you know if you should or shouldn't go ahead and get one. Good luck.
Reply:You will have to let the artist know. My husband has the same thing, he bled so much the artist was sometimes tattooing blind, but he did it. You do bleed a little with tattoos, but the artist may be willing to do it if you sign a waiver. It will also mean you may have to go twice, once to get the original done, and twice to get the colour redone, because excessive bleeding can sometimes wash the color out a bit in patches. I barely bleed at all when getting mine done.
Reply:It would be risky as you will bleed during the tattoo process...
Reply:hm.. that's a tough one the best is to don't get a tattoo unless your really sure and a doctor says it's fine
Reply:I would think that is not a grand idea given your factor....

I'd check with your doctor first just in case !

Tattoos do cause a lot of bleeding for some. I'd not chance it personally.
Reply:well you need blood clotting to help heal the tattoo because you are scaring your skin by having the ink pressed into your skin. i would talk to a doctor about it because that could kill you if you are thinking about a huge piece of artwork.
Reply:First before doing anything ask your doctor. I would suggest not too. Do you really want to take that risk. Think about it and do your research.
Reply:u can but i would not recomend it
Reply:Like Rider said, you need to ask your doctor and then your tattoo artist. Nobody here can tell you whether it's ok or not. We don't know how your body reacts to cuts and other wounds(fresh tattoos are basically open wounds for the first few days).
Reply:Hi Clays, If you are a bleeder you shouldn't get a tattoo. If they go to deep yes it could affect your blood. I am sure if you tell the tattoo artist that you are a blooder he will not touch you at all. You might want to get those press on tattoos( I know it's not real but what can you do!!!). LOL LOL LOL.

Reply:I would suggest not getting a tattoo. It could prove to be extremely dangerous to be tattooed for you.

Check with the doctor or the artist.

I have a friend who is on blood thinners and was warned by doctors that while she is taking them she is not to be tattooed or get any piercings.
Reply:Tattoos break the skin. You will bleed when you get a tattoo.

Now, whether you can get one or not is another story. It depends on the severity of your condition (One which I am not entirely familiar with, unfortunatley). The best advice I can offer is to speak with your doctor. He/she will be able to let you know if it's safe or not. If you get the okay from your doctor, be sure to inform your tattoo artist. Some conditions will prevent you from getting a tattoo, others won't be much of an issue. If you are able to form blood clots, just slowly, it shouldn't be too much trouble (but I'm guessing here, as I said I don't know all that much about your particular problem)

Some questions to ask yourself before you visit your doctor:

Do you have issues when you recieve a small cut or scrape? Do you requre medical attention/blood transfusions when it happens? If you answered yes, then a tattoo isn't for you.
Reply:Since you can't donate blood for a year after getting a tattoo I would guess that it does affect your blood. I would talk to a doctor and a tattoo artist too. If you have a disorder why would you want to take a risk in the first place?
