Ok, so I am always picking at the hangnails on my thumbs mainly and it is such a bad habit but I cannot stop! I don't know what causes me to do it and I know part of it is stress/fretting but I am not sure exactly what I'm anxious about lol.
I just do it and it's gross. What is my problem/disorder if any?
Sometime it gets so bad they are sore and I bleed.

Reply:I do the exact same thing. I've heard it could be OCD and also caused from anxiety or depression. I have been Dx with general anxiety disorder so I'm guessing that's what my problem is. Report It

Reply:I have the same problem I'm always biting my nails and the skin around it. My fingers look disgusting but I can't seem to stop. I've been doing it since I was like 4 years old. Most of the time I try to have my hands ALWAYS doing something like playing with a paperclip or playing with my hair or typing on the computer... or playing with a rubberband so that both of my hands are kept busy.
Reply:Could be a mild symptom of OCD. Nervous habit maybe. Check with your Dr. and see what he might suggest about helping to control this if it really bothers you. If it gets so bad that they bleed, infection could become a problem. Check with the Dr.
Reply:I have the same thing and I call it my "anxiety meter". On days with high levels of stress I literaly bleed them

Reply:It's a habit. Substitute something else. Get a little "worry stone" to rub and keep your hands busy. Also, use some hand cream to keep your cuticles soft.
