This news came on June 22, but the dog as far as we know is still alive, and still has a chance to live, but we need your help...NOW!
The ruling is DEATH! This judge had options and she CHOSE to have the dog put down when he was in his own house perceiving that he was protecting his family. Even the Verizon service man that Zeus bit doesn't want the dog to die. He barely broke the skin. Tomorrow there is going to be a Sit-in at Animal Services. The whole community is on the dog's side-everybody except the judge!
Sarasota in Defense of Animals (SDA) has received hundreds of e-mails and telephone calls after we shared the sad story of the injustice rendered to a German Shepherd dog, named Zeus, and the dog's care-giver, Mr. Gilbert Otero, a veteran suffering with 70% disabilities from post traumatic stress disorder.
Would you put a service dog to death for a bite that barely broke skin?
Oookkkkk, so some stupid human with the authority to show some intelligence is going to follow some ridiculous code and let decent moral/humane judgment fall wayside?
I bet while this single case proceeds, there are dozens of other dogs in the same area that pose a much greater threat of physically harming someone than this one.
Really, utterly insane and wrong. If the animal isnt a serious threat to people, then there is no reason to euthanize it. If a dog bites someone (not tresspassing), then it's the owners fault, not the dog.

Reply:It saddens me to say it, but my wife used to have a service dog, so I am familiar with the laws. A service dog must NEVER bite anyone - they are strictly trained not to do that, under NO circumstances. No matter what. If it did not receive this training, it is not a proper service dog.

Give us an email address too - we'll do what we can.
By the way - has anyone thought about hiding the dog?? That is so bad I know but if my dog was sentenced to death they would have to get past me to do it.
Reply:hell no u don't kill the dog he was protecting his family. get him evaluated by a vet and whatever the results are base it on that.
Reply:What a shame ,just who turned this incident in if it was not a problem with anyone involved?Did the Verizon Service Man go to the Hospital ?Something in that order must have happened? If this person went to a Doctor with a reported dog Bite it is an injury that must be reported to authorities. That is where the problem came in why would someone go to a Doctor with no injury?I am so sorry for the owner and the poor animal,I will call but I feel it is hopeless.Sorry.there is no winner here.
Reply:OMG,poor dog why should it be killed i think it is wrong bcuz a dog cant be put to death bcuz it( barely broke the skin) i think the dog should stay alive its normal to protect a family for as dog
