Cat on steroids???

Ihave a male cat and he has a skin disorder, he keep coming out in scaly rashes and sores. The vet has took skin samples and said that it is a reaction to something. This keeps re occurring and the vet has put him on steroids but i refuses to give him them because i don’t want to damage his liver.

Is this cruel. i mean the way i see it is, if the rash is not brothering him, why give him something that will damage him in the long run??? The sores just come and go, and if i see its brothering him or irritating him i will give him the drugs till its gone.

I just don’t want him on them all the time like the vet suggested.

what do you think???? thanks

Cat on steroids???
My opinion would be to, give your kitty the medication your vet put him on. The vet knows the side effects (potential liver damage...but they do blood work to check for this)....so doing this would help your kitty.

Hope he is feeling better soon. Patti
Reply:Go to another vet for a second opinion, find a cat specialist or a veterinary dermatologist. Steroids are a valid option, but not the only choice.
Reply:Vets know a lot. One of my friends has a cat who had like the same problem. the steroids worked pretty well.
Reply:I read that steroids don't have the same bad effects in cats as they do in people. I don't see how a rash couldn't bother him. You know it has to itch. I would give him the steroids. Maybe you won't have to continue them for life.
Reply:What an allopathic vet has to offer you is something that suppresses symptoms and does not deal with the reason your cat has the rash and sores.

A veterinary homeopath or a homepathic veterinarian will deal with the cause of the problem and try remedies to solve the issue.

You can contact me by email - there are at least four I can suggest you contact. Also go to http://www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article "Introduction to Homeopathy" to get an idea of what to expect from this approach to human and animal medicine.
