Does any 1 have or had Trichotillomania? its where u pull out ur hair, but dont know y or cant seem 2 stop?

Trichotillomania isn't just a habit that a person can easily stop. It's a medical condition.

Trichotillomania (pronounced: trik-oh-till-oh-may-nee-ah) is a type of psychological condition that involves strong urges to pull hair.People with trichotillomania pull hair out at the root from places like the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or pubic area. Some people pull large handfuls of hair, which can leave bald patches on the scalp or eyebrows. Other people pull out their hair one strand at a time. Some inspect the strand after pulling it out, or play with the hair after it's been pulled. Trichotillomania is a type of compulsive behavior, which means that people with the condition feel an overwhelming urge to pull their hair. People with trichotillomania also may experience other compulsive behaviors, such as nail biting or skin picking. Some may have problems like depression, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Compulsive behaviors like trichotillomania can sometimes run in families

they have really great phycology programs out there for people with this disorder. they just recently came out with a true life (show on mtv) episode with a girl who had this. she went through this therepy for 2 weeks intensivly and is no longer having her "episodes". You should try it. They have really great doctors out there that can help you with this. There are even some who specialize in this and this alone. If your worried about goign to one you should find the episode of true life and watch it because then you can see that it really does work. and maybe you could find some tips out of the show.
Reply:i have had it for 4 yrs. the cause is unknown. i believe it is enormous amount of stress and being lonely. it is a serious illness which can cause permanent hair loss. despite the many changes in my life i cant seem to stop. Report It

Reply:It can be a chemical imbalance. You can help yourself by exercising and eating foods which raise your seratonin levels. How do I know? I have it too, but it's not as bad as it was when I was a kid. Report It

Reply:I am going through the same thing email me if you wanna talk! Report It

Reply:no i do not have this.

i did write a paper on this disorder for a psychology study.

its pretty interesting
Reply:I knew a girl in high school that never had any eyelashes (well, sometimes a few) and had very thin eyebrows. She wore lots of eyeliner to cover it up.
Reply:I do a little, but I'm mostly a skin picker.
