i have two parents with stark blonde, straight, thin hair. mine is thick, curly and dark black. they have light skin, and i am a little darker. they have brown eyes, mine are blue. i am 5'7 and my mother is 5'3, my father is 5'7 as well. i have no facial characteristics similair to either one. no one on either side of the family look like me. my family is full of athletes, and i have zero athletic ability.
is this just a coincdence? ive often wondered about it.
Is there a disorder which makes children not look like their parents?
Sometimes it just happens that way. Recessive genes...
Or maybe there was some infidelity going on :-P (kidding but I guess it's possible). Don't worry, its not a disease.
Reply:Well, its possible that you are adopted and your parents decided not to tell you...

*Searching for disorder name* I'm constantly wanting to pick at my finace~hairs, pimples, ect.~mainly on face
I find myself constantly looking for things to pick on him when I'm sitting near him. I would pick for hours if he let me...but obviously he finds it extremely annoying. I have never picked my own skin to the point of scarring or anything like that...any ideas on what this may be called?

There is a form of OCD that involves picking your own skin or pulling out your own hair so I would imagine if you are doing it to someone else it would be a form of it. Just look up OCD disorders. Its a really long name that i can't remember something like tricateilomania. That's not it, but it's something along those lines. Good luck........
I just looked it up its called...Trichotillomania..(I was close :)
My brother has it, he pulls his hair out so much he has bald patches. He has been on meds for years and has never had a relapse.
Reply:OCD; let me guess. Check the stove, pop a zit. Check the stove again, pop a zit. Check the stove, pull an ingrown hair. Check the stove. Check the door. Check the stove. Pop a zit, check the door again.

I may have an endocrine disorder but all tests are normal. Is there an imaging test to show brain & glands?
I am 31yrs. old andI have been sick for over a year and a half with fatigue, no menstrual periods, hypoglycemia, acne and symptoms of decreased estrogen,ie. thinnng skin, loss of skin tone %26amp; elasticity, facial hair, loss of balance and memory, etc.
All hormonal and complete blood work are normal despite my obvious symptoms. I am very desperate and want to make sure I cover all the bases, as far as tests. Is there a test that looks at the brain, as well as all the organs and glands of the body? Is there one that would show inflammation too? Would I need both the PET and CT scan together?
Thanks for any help.
Liz

You may just need a 2nd opinion from an endocrinologist who is a pituitary specialist. Many endos don't read test results right...low normal should be read as not normal! Some endos just don't get this. Were you pregnant prior to symptoms? You need a pituitary MRI (focuses in on the very small pituitary). Best Dr. is at this website: www.goodhormonehealth.com. Look at list of symptoms.
Reply:Then it's not an endocrine disorder. You may have Guillain-Barr Syndrome. (Chronic fatigue.)

Stress disorder?
My hubby has a tendency to pick at his skin when he is stressed out. His target areas are on his face (mostly the nose) or his the top of his hands. I worry about it cos for one it looks really nasty sometimes and two Im afraid it'll get infected. Usually the places he has picked on his hands get REALLY big. Sometimes he can go for months without doing it. I dont get it. I spose its sorta like biting your fingernails? Any suggestions as to why he does this ..and how I can get him to stop???
Stress disorder?
He is not the only one dear !! Join the club of Skin Pickers wifes lol ! No matter what you tell him he will not stop. Mine picks a small sore on his forehead, starts to heal and guess what !! Only thing is reminding him to wash his hands and reminding him that it will leave scars and intruducing GERMS to skin can be a big problem. Do they listen NOOOOOOO ! So let them PICK AWAY !!!!!!!!!! LOL.

Eating Disorder, Fetish or what? And is it harmful?
I have a client who eats her fingernails, skin, hair, nasal discharge and bu****s, eye crust and scabs. Is this a person stuck in an infantile stage of develpment, part of a fetish (she is non-sexual and claims to have no libido) or simply a form of pica? My actual main concern however is whether the consumption of her own flesh can harm her in any way. I have heard that cannibals are more likely to develop brain diseases and I am thinking this is a form of self-cannibalism.
Eating Disorder, Fetish or what? And is it harmful?
I do not think it is an "eating disorder" per say, but rather possibly a form of OCD. As long as the eating of scabs doesn't interfere with healing of sores, than there is most likely no significant danger. The problem most cannibals encounter is eating the brains of other people.
"The brain diseases, called prion diseases, are characterized by loss of coordination, dementia, paralysis, and eventually death. Modern examples include Creutzfeld Jacob disease and kuru in humans, and mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy, in animals."
Hope this helps!
Reply:I've never heard of something like this, does'nt sound like a healthy diet though, you'd best ask a professional this type of question, this girl needs serious help though, hope you can give it to her.
Reply:Hmm sounds deffantly disgusting could be harmful I would think eating her own flesh yuck! Okay I gotta go puke now...
Reply:i do not think that eating her body crusts and skin would hurt her. Most kids eat their own scabs or swallow nails at some stage. Cannibals are at risk because they are eating other peoples bodies and as they ar eating their own kind any diseases are easily transmitted.
I dont think I would classify it as an eating diorder - but rather a manifistation of her disordered or psychotic state.
Reply:it's quite bizarre.i think u shld see a specialist.

Eating Disorder?
I have been over weight my whole life. I am 5'2 and 24 years old. At my heaviest I was 200lbs that was 2 years ago, I now weight 138. I know what your thinking.. wow..thats great. And it is, but I still look in the mirror and see that fat girl. Dont get me wrong I still have more than enough fat, hips thighs a butt ..its all there.
Anyway, My fiance has been away for the last 6 months, since he has been gone i have been extremelly depressed, and in turn i always put a lot of blame on my weight. About 4 months ago I started throwing up after I ate, not all the time but I was doing it, If i felt guilty. Istarted getting nose bleeds, my tounge was a wierd color and my skin was looking horrible. I decided if i went at this alone and never told anyone things would only get worse. So I decided to tell my fiance what was going on, not to worry him but for some help. Someone to turn to someone to keep asking me and a reason not to do it anymore...
Eating Disorder?
I think that you should also look into any self help books and most probably look into talking to a therapist. My friend used to be overweight when she was in middle school and when she started high school she lost a lot of weight. It took her a long time to "feel" thin , even though she looked thin. I think its perfectly normal to still feel insecure about your body since you struggled with it for so long. BUT it's not normal to throw up after you eat (bulemia nervosa) that is something you do NOT want to do, and should look into getting help for.
Reply:You may not be able to have children if you keep doing that and your metabolism will go down causing you to gain more weight later. Your hair will fall out too and you will grow more body hair and that is gross.
Reply:I have a niece who was struggling with bulimia for several years. My sister finally got her some counseling and she was much better, but not overnight. I think you should find someone to talk to about your eating disorder who will encourage you while holding you accountable. Please e-mail me if you would like to talk more.
Reply:If you are throwing up the food that you eat that is definitely an eating disorder. I would tell your fiancee if you weel that you need his support. Bulimia is very dangerous, the stomach acid eats away at your throat tissue, it degrades the enamel on your teeth, etc. You are not fat. I know it is easy to be self critical and stuff, but you are not fat. I would suggest trying to do things so that you don't feel guilty after eating. Make sure to eat healthy things, etc. Remember too, one treat is not going to gain you back all that weight. If you keep feeling like this I would go and talk to your doctor.
Good luck!
